During the New Year holidays, about 100,000 citizens walked the streets of Vitebsk, and 1,000 artists performed.

January 4, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Almost every third resident of Vitebsk took part in New Year's celebrations on the squares and streets of ancient Vitebsk. As reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, about 100,000 people participated in mass events over the three-day holiday. The largest number of citizens gathered at the main Christmas tree on New Year's Eve - about 55,000 people. Despite such a large number of people, no significant incidents occurred. Police officers took intoxicated citizens home, and only those who were unable to state their address were taken to the sobering-up station. There were 47 such people in the city over the three days. Traffic police officers also noted a downward trend in road accidents. From January 1 to 3, not a single accident occurred in the region in which people were injured. 58 drivers were detained for driving while intoxicated, 9 of whom were in Vitebsk. About a thousand cultural workers and amateur performers were involved in organizing the citizens' leisure. Concerts and entertainment programs continued throughout the holidays. The most popular form of recreation was ice skating, as rinks were set up near the central Christmas tree on Victory Square and on the territory of the Summer Amphitheater. In addition, the public services department provided ice skate rentals and sharpening, and trade outlets offered hot tea and delicious pastries. -0-
