The names of eight natives of the Kursk region who died in the "Stalag-354" concentration camp have been identified in Novopolotsk, the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

During the work with archival data, the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, in cooperation with the administration of the Kursk region and the "Zvezda" television company, identified the individuals of eight natives of the Kursk region who died in the fascist concentration camp "Stalag-354" in the urban-type settlement of Borovukha. It was also possible to find relatives of the deceased prisoners, who for 70 years knew nothing about the fate of their fathers and grandfathers. Their arrival in Novopolotsk is expected for the celebrations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

As part of the May 9th celebrations, the solemn unveiling of a commemorative memorial plaque and a ceremony of military honors are planned in the urban-type settlement of Borovukha at the "Zvezda" historical and memorial complex for the prisoners of the fascist concentration camp "Stalag-354". Representatives of the Russian embassies, surviving prisoners of the fascist concentration camps "Stalag-354" and "Dulag-125" (Polotsk) will take part in the event.

The "Stalag-354" concentration camp for prisoners of war operated in the territory of the urban-type settlement of Borovukha in 1941-1943. According to official data, 29,000 people died in it, including civilians. Currently, about 200 names of the deceased have been identified.
