Student of the Year of the Region Chosen in Novopolotsk

What should the best student of the year be like? Educated, well-mannered, disciplined, well-read, and also active, hardworking, cheerful, positive, sociable, creative, a little reckless… You might ask how all this can be combined in one young person? Well, such a cocktail of qualities can be easily found in many modern students who manage to prove themselves in everything and do not want to miss a single minute of time. Proof of this is the regional stage of the republican competition "Student of the Year", where representatives of five universities of the Vitebsk region claimed this title.

This time, following the competition held at Polotsk State University required not only looking through the lens of a camera but also from the judges' table: a journalist from "Vitebskiye Vesti" was invited to be part of the jury. If only you knew, dear readers, how difficult it is to raise scorecards when everyone wants to give fives, because each of the five students was irresistible and unique. Representatives from the Veterinary Academy Anna Dudarchuk, the Medical University Svetlana Nadjafova, PSU named after P. Masherov Tatyana Chudikova, VSTU Ekaterina Slavina, and PSU student Nikolay Rozum prepared portfolios and videos about student life, talked about their hobbies and talents, discussed the topic "My Specialty is My Guarantee of the Future" in the public speaking competition, defended their own projects and initiatives, and also demonstrated creative performances. Everything turned out bright, emotional, and creative, for which the participants deserve great thanks. And the best student of the year in the region, based on the results of the trials, was future oilman Nikolay Rozum.

The young man with a charming smile captivated with his spontaneity, openness, and talents. His average academic score is 9.0. He is the chairman of the student council of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at PSU, a member of the university council, a participant in scientific and practical conferences. In addition, he actively plays in KVN (a comedy show), sings in the pop singing studio "Nastroenie," and helps young people spend their summer in student work teams by heading the PSU labor affairs headquarters. And he himself is not averse to working: Nikolay Rozum spent last summer in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug at the All-Russian Youth Construction Project "Bovanenkovo," and as a result, became the winner of the republican competition "Labor Semester-2014" in the nomination "Best Squad Leader of a Detachment Working Outside the Republic of Belarus." Now Nikolay intends to conquer another peak – the republican stage of "Student of the Year," where he will represent the Vitebsk region. In the meantime, you can go on a journey along the route Tallinn – Riga – Stockholm: this is the grand prize he received from the travel company "Ilva."

Vitebsk Technological University also proved its worth, having held the first position for two years in a row, and as we recall, Anna Myadilets subsequently confirmed her victory at various competitions of both national and international levels. This time, we want to congratulate the university on another wonderful student – Ekaterina Slavina, the author of the social project "Quest 'Secrets of Belarus'", a participant of the vocal studio "Big Change", and the volunteer detachment "Heart Without Borders", who has many victories in scientific and creative activities behind her, and, I am sure, even more ahead. It is to her that we decided to present a special prize from "Vitebskiye Vestі". The third place was taken by Tatiana Chudikova, a student of VSU named after P. Masherov, chairperson of the student council and student scientific society of the Faculty of Law.

– The competition, which has been held for several years, is a significant event in the student environment and is aimed at developing and supporting the initiatives, intellectual and creative potential of young people. They look forward to it and prepare for it, – noted the acting first secretary of the regional committee of the BRSM Dmitry Turoнок. – In the Year of Youth, the qualifying rounds in universities aroused great interest, with more than 30 people striving to participate in the regional stage. As a result, we saw the best of the best, and they are all winners.

It is impossible not to agree. And, it seems, all representatives of the older generation, looking at the guys, felt nostalgic for the years of their youth. After all, as rightly noted by PSU Rector Dmitry Lazovsky, welcoming the guests, student life is a time that ends quickly, but leaves lifelong impressions.
