Solemn events dedicated to the centenary of the Vitebsk police were held in the regional center
"The material and technical base of the region is updated annually. In the jubilee year, the building of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee is being renovated, and a new building for the employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Oktyabrsky District Administration is under construction. Its construction is planned to be completed in 2019," said Ivan Kubrakov. In general, he noted that the law enforcement agencies of the Vitebsk region have worthily approached the holiday. There is a trend of decreasing crime rates, and the effectiveness of work in identifying and searching for suspects has increased. "This is the merit of all generations of Vitebsk police officers," emphasized Ivan Kubrakov.
Today, a solemn rally was held on Victory Square in the regional center near the memorial complex in honor of the Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans and underground fighters of the Vitebsk region. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, service veterans, and relatives of employees took part in it.
"The effective work of Vitebsk law enforcement officers is evidenced by dozens of high-profile crimes that have resonated throughout the country at different times. It is important not only to preserve the memory of the feat and heroism of predecessor colleagues but also to multiply all that has been achieved during the existence of the police," emphasized the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Head of the Criminal Police, Ivan Podgursky.
In turn, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, noted that the region has managed to significantly strengthen law and order in many areas. And the most objective assessment of the police's work is people's trust.
Also today, a meeting was held with relatives of police officers who died in the line of duty, and with veterans. Employees of internal affairs bodies marched along the central street of Vitebsk, and modern and retro law enforcement vehicles drove by. The celebrations will conclude in the Summer Amphitheatre with a festive concert. On August 15, 1918, the Vitebsk Provincial Administration was established, which exercised general leadership over law enforcement agencies. This date was taken as the day of the establishment of the police in the northern region.
