The bridge over the Western Dvina in Vitebsk is being monitored online

Drivers and passengers of motor vehicles who have traveled along the highway on the southwestern bypass of Vitebsk have surely noticed the wind turbine and solar panels near the bridge over the Western Dvina. Alternative power sources appeared there more than a year ago, and people passing by think that they are used to save electricity, illuminating the road section by the action of natural elements.

Indeed, hearing the intense hum emitted by the rotating blades, one gets the impression that this is a very powerful device. But in reality, wind and sun have nothing to do with the lights burning along the roadside, and such alternative power sources have a different, no less important task.

As reported by RUE "Vitebskavtodor", the wind turbine and solar panels allow the sensors of the bridge span condition to operate autonomously. Information from them is transmitted online to specialists so that they can respond promptly in case of emergency situations.

Electronics were used because this bridge has non-standard spans. And the autonomous power source is designed to protect the monitoring system from power supply interruptions and has not failed yet. By the way, such a device has no analogues in the Vitebsk region.
