The concept of Polotsk's tourist infrastructure should be based on the history of Belarusian statehood - A. Tozik

April 8, Polotsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Polotsk is the cradle of Belarusian statehood and spirituality, and it should develop in this direction as a tourist center. This point of view was expressed today by Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Council Anatoly Tozik during an off-site Interdepartmental meeting of the Expert and Coordination Council for Tourism under the Council of Ministers, a BELTA correspondent reports. The off-site meeting is taking place in Polotsk and Novopolotsk. According to Anatoly Tozik, in order to develop the tourism infrastructure, Polotsk needs to preserve and recreate what is possible, and increase the number of hotels of different classes. Another important factor in attracting tourists to the city will be educational work. "It is necessary to talk as much as possible about the history of Polotsk, where Belarusian statehood originates. We are a country with a great history, we have never left this land, our ancestors lived on this land," Anatoly Tozik emphasized. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the concept of developing the tourism infrastructure of the historical districts of Polotsk, presented by the city authorities, deserves attention. It should be worked out in detail, taking into account the opinions of historians, the public, and the population, with an emphasis on the spiritual aspect. "The government faces the task of making tourism a highly profitable industry, and it is impossible to do this without Polotsk," Anatoly Tozik is confident. In 2012, Polotsk will celebrate its 1150th anniversary. -0-
