In memory of Orsha being awarded the pennant for courage and resilience during the Great Patriotic War, local veterans received unusual gifts
August 24, Orsha / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. In memory of Orsha being awarded the pennant "For Courage and Resilience during the Great Patriotic War", veterans residing in Orsha received their painted portraits as a gift, a BELTA correspondent reports.
"The war is the most difficult and tragic page in the history of our city, and for the current generation of Orsha residents, the memory of it is sacred," said Nikolai Lisovsky, Chairman of the Orsha City Executive Committee, at the solemn ceremony on the occasion of the pennant award.
This memory lives on in the works of Orsha poets and artists. For the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, local artist Vladimir Zhitnov created a series of painted portraits of his fellow countrymen - war veterans. The exhibition was first displayed at the memorial museum of Hero of the Soviet Union Konstantin Zaslonov. On the day Orsha was awarded the pennant, at the festive ceremony, the artist presented his portraits to six veterans - heroes of the past war. It is noteworthy that the very first exhibition of the artist's works was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. -0-
