On the first day of early voting in the Vitebsk region, almost 5% of voters made their choice
The level of citizen activity was also noted by the author of these lines during a visit on February 13 to the district election commission of the Gorky Electoral District No. 52 for the election of deputies to the regional council, which was located at Secondary School No. 14.
There was a significant reason to get acquainted with the organization of early voting precisely in this election commission. Electoral District No. 52 appeared on the electoral map of the Vitebsk region for the first time, so in the 28th convocation of the regional council, 17 instead of 16 people's representatives will represent the interests of the residents of the regional center.
It turned out to be extensive in size, including microdistricts on the western outskirts of Vitebsk, including territories adjacent to Maxim Gorky Street, located near "Vitebskdrev" and "Monolit," the river port, as well as the village of Tarny.
The district covers a considerable private sector and multi-story buildings, but, as noted by the chairperson of the district election commission, Irina Loseva, this did not affect the work of the precinct commissions, particularly in refining voter lists and notifying them about the time and place of voting.
A total of 9 precinct election commissions have been formed in the district. They are usually located in educational institutions. All activities are carried out in accordance with the calendar plan for the preparation and conduct of elections, approved by the Central Election Commission.
By the way, the clear organization of work is largely facilitated by the high-quality methodological support provided by the CEC. And also – the experience of participating in previous election campaigns, which the members of the district election commission have. Irina Loseva worked in a precinct commission in previous elections. Currently, among her 13 colleagues are representatives of various professional fields, public organizations, people of different ages, but united by one task – to conduct the elections of deputies to local representative bodies of power at a high level.
A total of 13,499 people are included in the voter lists for voting in constituency No. 52. Of these, 365 citizens, or 2.7%, have already made their choice in the first half of the first day of early voting. At one of the polling stations, about 10% of voters have cast their ballots.
Such activity may indicate the quality of the organizational work carried out at the preparatory stage by members of the election commissions. The level of competition also influences it. In the 52nd constituency, there are two contenders for the mandate. They conduct campaigning with voters in different ways. And we will find out who will become the 17th representative of the residents of Vitebsk in the regional Council of Deputies very soon – on February 18.
