A bridge was opened in Polotsk after reconstruction
The ceremony was attended by city residents, bridge builders, representatives of local authorities, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko.
During the work, specialists updated the utilities. A roundabout was organized at one of the bridge exits. Fencing has been installed on the approaches to the bridge, new lighting and decorative illumination, there is a wide sidewalk and a bicycle path. Almost all load-bearing structures had to be replaced, except for the supports, which were only repaired. More than Br33 million were spent on the reconstruction of the bridge.
The Speaker of the Parliament emphasized that the opening of the bridge was a long-awaited event for the residents of Polotsk. "The renovated bridge over the Western Dvina once again connects the two parts of Polotsk. Behind this is the great work of designers, engineers, builders, and authorities. The facility turned out to be excellent - reliable, modern, and convenient. I think it will serve the residents for a very long time and contribute to the socio-economic development of the city," said Vladimir Andreichenko and thanked on behalf of the House of Representatives everyone who worked on the renovation of the bridge.
About three weeks ago, local authorities invited residents to express their ideas on naming the bridge. Many options were received, and Pokrovsky won. The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is located next to the overpass.
The head of the northern region, Nikolai Sherstnev, added that the bridge was built quickly - in a year. To reconstruct it in such a short period, permission was obtained from Alexander Lukashenko for the simultaneous preparation of documentation and construction of the facility. "OAO Mostostroy employs unique personnel. By working efficiently on the bridge, they have proven their professionalism and competence," said the head of the region. "May the new bridge serve for a long time and delight the eyes of the residents of Polotsk. The construction quality here is undoubtedly high."
During the bridge opening ceremony, certificates of honor and letters of gratitude were awarded to specialists from various organizations. The general contractor was Mostostroy OJSC, and the general designer was Ecomost LLC. The first to drive across the new overpass were vintage cars from the collection of Polotsk car enthusiasts.
The bridge on Yubileynaya Street across the Western Dvina was built in the 1930s. It had not undergone major repairs, only maintenance work was carried out several times. During the bridge inspections, it was found that it required significant renovation. Substantial changes were made to the original design, and traffic on the overpass was closed in October last year. Novopolotsk Plant of Technological Metal Structures joined the production of metal structures, mastering a new area of production, undergoing the necessary certification, and obtaining all permits.
