In Polotsk, the Day of Remembrance of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk was celebrated
Celebrations dedicated to this special date for the entire Belarusian land took place in Polotsk. The day before, the city became a center of attraction for numerous pilgrims and guests from different parts of the country who arrived to glorify the name of Saint Euphrosyne and her spiritual feat together with the Polotsk residents. For many generations, Euphrosyne of Polotsk, who laid strong traditions of Orthodoxy, has been a shining example of high spirituality and morality, diligence and enlightenment.
On June 4, a festive All-Night Vigil was held at the Transfiguration of the Savior-Euphrosyne Stavropegic Convent. And on Saturday, June 5, the celebrations opened with the Divine Liturgy in the Saint Sophia Cathedral, from where a crowded Procession of the Cross then proceeded to the Transfiguration of the Savior-Euphrosyne Convent. Its participants, with enlightened faces, walked along the path of the Saint, singing hymns, many carrying icons in their hands. Stopping near the monument to Euphrosyne of Polotsk, they laid flowers at its foot.
The events were attended by Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, archbishops and bishops, other representatives of the clergy, the leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, the executive authorities of the Polotsk district, the city of Novopolotsk, townspeople and guests. The monastery grounds welcomed the Procession in floral decorations. After the prayer service, a welcome address from the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Natalya Kochanova, was read out. The holiday was congratulated by the Chairperson of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, and the Chairperson of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, Igor Markovich. Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, addressed the faithful with words of preaching.
...The Day of Remembrance of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk, uniting everyone around the ideals of Christianity, returns to the original values and strengthens the connection with history, the glorious deeds of our ancestors. For centuries, the heavenly intercessor has been protecting us and inspiring us to good deeds. And, keeping her image in our souls, we strengthen our faith and, over time, increasingly realize the greatness of the achievements and righteous labors of the holy countrywoman.
