An exhibition of monetary signs from the first decades of Soviet power will be presented in Polotsk

В Полоцке представят выставку денежных знаков первых десятилетий советской власти

The exhibition "From the Full Chervonets to the Hard Ruble of the USSR. Monetary Signs of the First Years of Soviet Power" will be presented in Polotsk on November 6, dedicated to the Day of the October Revolution. This was reported by the press service of the Polotsk District Executive Committee.

The one-day exhibition will be held at the Polotsk District Culture Center, where a festive concert dedicated to the 98th anniversary of the October Revolution will take place on that day. The exposition will include about 60 items from the museum collection of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Visitors will be able to see a small part of the museum's numismatic and bonistic collections, and touch upon the history of monetary signs from 1922 to 1961 (state monetary signs of the RSFSR, bank notes of the State Bank of the USSR (chervonets), state treasury notes of the USSR, exchange treasury bonds of the USSR, etc.).

"Many coins issued during the existence of the Soviet Union are of great value to private collectors. Their cost often exceeds the cost of older specimens. Chervonets are of particular interest because their appearance brought significant changes to the monetary system of the Union. These were currencies fully backed by platinum, gold, silver, foreign currency, and high-demand goods. The state guarantees of chervonets were solid: 1 chervonets was exchanged for 8.6 g of pure gold," the exhibition organizers noted. The museum-reserve's funds store over 11,000 numismatic items and about 2,000 bonistic items. In the museum-reserve's branches – the Museum of Belarusian Printing, the Local History Museum, and at the permanent exhibition "A Walk through Nizhne-Pokrovskaya" – paper money and coins of the Soviet period can also be seen.

The concert at the Culture Center begins at 3:00 PM, and the exhibition of monetary signs will be open from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
