Bridges have bloomed in Polotsk
August 11, Polotsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Bridges have bloomed in Polotsk. More than a hundred flowerpots with flowers have adorned the railings of five bridges in the ancient city, Valentina Spiridonova, director of the green economy section of Polotsk housing and communal services, told a BELTA correspondent.
It is now difficult to recall who came up with the idea of greening the bridges, but the fact that its implementation has caused delight among citizens and tourists is undeniable. After all, almost 3,000 annuals - petunias, salvias, marigolds - have made both the historic Red Bridge and the simple pedestrian bridge over the railway tracks colorful and bright.
Ancient Polotsk literally blooms in the middle of summer. 180,000 flowers delight the eye on its streets - this is how many were planted by landscapers last spring. The total area of flower beds in the city of 80,000 inhabitants is 6.5 thousand square meters.
