Delegations from twin cities are participating in the celebration of the 1039th anniversary of Vitebsk
Delegations from twin cities of Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Armenia are taking part in the celebration of the 1039th anniversary of Vitebsk, a BELTA correspondent reports.
Foreign guests attended a meeting at the city executive committee, participated in the opening ceremony of trolleybus traffic on new routes, and visited the presentation of an exact replica of the first Vitebsk tram.
During a conversation with journalists, Gagik Simonyan, Secretary of the Mayor's Office of the Armenian city of Vanadzor, said that he was visiting Vitebsk for the first time. "An agreement on cooperation between Vitebsk and Vanadzor was signed only last year. We hope that contacts will strengthen and develop. We plan to organize joint creative and sports projects every year. Friendly contacts will help develop economic relations and create joint ventures," the guest noted.
Gagik Simonyan emphasized that the regional center made a very good impression on him. "It is a clean and well-maintained city where majestic recreated churches and modern buildings are perfectly combined. I especially liked the design and the building of the medical university itself, as well as the outlines of the Vitebsk bridges. Construction can also become one of the areas of cooperation," he said.
Today, festive events dedicated to the 1039th anniversary of the city began in Vitebsk. A solemn meeting and concert took place in the Summer Amphitheater. The festive disco "Happy Birthday, Beloved City" gathered young people on Victory Square. On Saturday, the celebrations will continue. A flower-laying ceremony will be held at the monument to the liberator soldiers on Victory Square. A water festival and an air show will be organized on the embankment of the Western Dvina. An exhibition and a parade of vintage cars, a bridal fashion show, a concert program with the participation of the brass band "In Ancient Rhythms by the Fountain", a festival of youth subcultures, an open-air painting session for young artists, and a book festival "Literature of the Native Land" will be held in the regional center. An exhibition dedicated to the history of the Vitebsk People's Art School will be open. The second day of the celebration will conclude with a concert and entertainment program and a colorful fireworks display on Victory Square. Sunday will be a day for family recreation. Concert, entertainment, sports, and game programs will be held on city sites, in parks, and squares.
