A bust of the holy martyr Konstantin Zhdanov was unveiled in Sharkovshchina

В Шарковщине открыли бюст священномученика Константина Жданова

At the end of April, on the day of remembrance of the Holy Martyr Constantine Zhdanov, the consecration and grand opening of his bust took place in Sharkovshchina. The priest died on April 29, 1919, in the city of Disna for not renouncing his faith in Christ.

The Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, built in the early 20th century through the efforts of Father Constantine, was led by Archbishop Feodosiy of Polotsk and Glubokoye. For his labors and fervent prayers, the dean of the Sharkovshchina district, Archpriest Petr Baranovsky, was awarded a palitsa.

After the services, two religious processions departed from the Holy Dormition Church and the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow". Having walked through the streets of Sharkovshchina, the faithful, including residents from other districts, met at the intersection of two roads, near the monument, where a prayer service was held. Archbishop Feodosiy and the chairman of the district executive committee, Nikolay Bogovich, unveiled the bust by removing the white cloth covering the face of the saint.

As the bishop noted, our land raised the Holy Martyr Constantine Zhdanov. His life and terrible death testified to the immutability of faith, his meekness and humility. Following the example of the priest, we should strive for peace, creation, and well-being to reign not only in our hearts but throughout the entire world.

As a keepsake, Nikolay Irinarhovich presented the bishop with a souvenir depicting the installed bust (pictured). The creation of the bust involved the renowned Vitebsk architect Valery Rybakov, and sculptors Ivan Kazak and Alexander Gvozdikov.
