In Shumilino, parishioners and patrons are building a church
A new Orthodox church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is being built in Shumilino on Lunacharsky Street. In the 90s of the last century, they wanted to build a shopping center here. However, due to lack of funds, construction stalled. The structures were dismantled. An unsightly wasteland formed in the center of the urban settlement.
Three years ago, the dean of the Orthodox churches of the Shumilino district, Archpriest Fyodor Puchinsky, came to a meeting with the chairman of the district executive committee, Vladimir Kurenny, and convinced him to build a church on this site:
- An Orthodox church in Shumilino was erected in 1866, - says Father Fyodor. - But in 1944, the German-fascist invaders dismantled it for defensive structures. Since then, there have been no Orthodox churches in Shumilino. The Soviet government also did not favor faith. It is enough to recall that one of the collective farms in the district was named "Godless".
In recent years, fortunately, the situation has changed. Now, the walls of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker have been built, windows have been installed, and a small dome has been erected. It remains to complete the roof, erect the main dome, and carry out the interior decoration.
The church in Shumilino is being built with funds from parishioners, enterprises, agricultural organizations, entrepreneurs, and patrons. In two years, almost 900 million rubles have been collected here by the whole world.
If anyone wishes to donate funds to the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the settlement account can be found here.
