The king of beasts will arrive in Vitebsk from Kaliningrad, transiting through Minsk
October 4, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. On World Animal Day, joyful news arrived at the Vitebsk Zoo - the king of beasts will arrive here in October, the zoo director Aleksey Andreikov shared the news with a BELTA correspondent.
The ten-month-old lion cub, a native of the Kaliningrad Zoo, will be delivered by plane from Kaliningrad to Minsk, and then transported to Vitebsk by road. Currently, the zoo management and the national airline "Belavia" are considering transportation options. As Aleksey Andreikov promises, a ticket will be purchased for the lion cub on the nearest flight.
Meanwhile, the zoo is preparing to receive the new resident: they are tidying up its enclosure and developing a feeding plan. The lion cub will live outdoors in a heated enclosure. The Vitebsk Zoo has experience in keeping African lions: for 20 years, a lion named Rigus lived here.
The zoo director specifically noted that sponsors provided assistance in acquiring the lion cub. The company "Marko" bought it, the Vitebsk enterprise "Taxi-Blues" guarantees its delivery from Minsk to Vitebsk, and the city executive committee will help pay for the flight from Kaliningrad. The newcomer has not yet been named; it is possible that the sponsors will be given the honor of naming the lion cub. The zoo hopes that they will provide support in acquiring a female companion for the lion cub. The search for a lioness has already begun.
The Vitebsk Zoo has over fifty species of animals, birds, and reptiles. Among the zoo's latest acquisitions are spiny mice, a royal lampropeltis - albino, and a she-wolf - all of them were donated to the zoo. -0-
