July 4, Minsk / Vladimir Matveev - BELTA /. Not a single public recreation area in Vitebsk was empty on July 3, the head of the information and public relations department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Andrei Semenikhin, told a BELTA correspondent. "There wasn't a single site in the city that was empty. Everywhere there were either entertainment for children or for adults of any price range. Everyone could relax and spend time," he said. According to the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Regional Executive Committee, a total of 42,000 people celebrated Independence Day and the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders in public recreation areas in Vitebsk, and about 160,000 in the region. Speaking about the citizens' reaction to the security measures taken, Andrei Semenikhin noted that most people were informed in advance, and they accepted everything calmly and amicably. Law enforcement officers at checkpoints worked politely and efficiently. Citizens arrived in advance and managed to attend all events. "There were no incidents or dissatisfied people," the interlocutor emphasized. Almost all police personnel were involved in maintaining law and order in the Vitebsk region on July 3. Nevertheless, Andrei Semenikhin noted, citing the opinions of acquaintances, "the holiday passed calmly and without tension, and the police presence was not felt." "The weather was beautiful, it wasn't particularly hot, and people relaxed calmly and freely with their families. No one was carrying beer around. People are gradually getting used to relaxing without alcohol. This is the best kind of relaxation," added the head of the information and public relations department. -0-
