In Vitebsk, an unemployed woman sold thuja trees stolen from graves at the market
Relatives of the deceased did not manage to discover the loss: a 48-year-old thief was detained by operatives. At the Smolensk market, she tried to sell a Canadian spruce and three thuya trees. The unemployed woman was immediately suspected of theft: she had previously been caught stealing artificial flowers from graves in the village of Tarny.
A check showed that the suspicions were justified, said Olga Shkuratova, an employee of the Information and Public Relations Department:
– It turned out that the unemployed woman dug up the decorative trees at the very same cemetery immediately after Trinity. The owners of the spruce and one thuya tree have already been informed about the theft. The damage is 900 thousand rubles. This time, the city department of the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code.
A similar theft was recently uncovered in the Gorodok district. Details were provided by Andrey Potapenko, First Deputy Head of the Gorodok District Department of Internal Affairs:
– After Easter and Radunitsa, almost all the flowers left by relatives of the deceased disappeared from the cemetery near the village of Stepanovichi. The bouquets were collected by a local resident, who told the investigator that she was driven to such an act not by selfish motives, but by... a craving for beauty. She chose the newest, most beautiful, and consequently, most expensive flowers. Then she decorated her house with them and gave some away to acquaintances.
The admirer of robbing the deceased faces a fine of up to 10 basic units.
