In Vitebsk, a former investigator was sentenced to 12 years for drug trafficking
On April 13, the court of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk passed a sentence on a former investigator of the inter-district department of the Investigative Committee. The employee was accused of illegal drug trafficking and sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
"The accused, while holding the position of investigator of the inter-district department of the SC and having a special rank (senior lieutenant of justice), was obliged to combat any violations of the law, however, he committed particularly serious crimes against public health, while pursuing mercenary motives and betraying the interests of service with his unlawful actions," the Supreme Court website states.
According to the case materials, from February 2014 for 10 months, the investigator purchased a dangerous narcotic drug (marijuana) and particularly dangerous psychotropic substances (spices, amphetamine, and others) from unidentified persons in several places in Belarus (Novopolotsk, Polotsk, Polotsk district, Minsk and Minsk district) for further sale. The citizen kept the goods with him and transported them home, where he divided them into portions and continued to store them for further sale.
Subsequently, the man distributed drugs via the internet, where he searched for clients, negotiated payment terms, and the location of the goods.
The former investigator was accused of a crime provided for by Part 3 of Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ("Illegal drug trafficking"). In court, the accused fully admitted his guilt. The court also found him guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, to be served in a correctional colony under an enhanced regime.
The former investigator is also deprived of the right to hold positions related to service in law enforcement agencies for 5 years. In addition, the citizen is deprived of his special rank – senior lieutenant of justice.
