In Vitebsk, more than 80 schoolchildren – winners of the final stage of republican subject Olympiads – were honored
– Traditionally, gymnasiums No. 1, 2, and 8 hold leading positions in preparing winners. At the same time, it is pleasant to note that secondary schools also demonstrate a decent level. For example, students from Secondary School No. 31 in Vitebsk and Secondary School No. 16 in Polotsk received four diplomas each. These results indicate that many regular schools, including rural ones, such as Voropayevo Secondary School in Postavy district, are not inferior to many gymnasiums in terms of education quality. For instance, students from Ushachi Secondary School have been winning diplomas in various subjects for many years, and this year they again have 2 winners of republican Olympiads, – noted Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Education Department of the Regional Executive Committee.
Dmitry Leonidovich also emphasized that compared to the previous academic year, the number of winners at the final stage of the Olympiads increased by 14 people, which allowed the region's team to rise to fourth place in the republic. In addition, the Vitebsk region ranks second in the number of diplomas received at scientific and practical conferences.
The northern region's victories also include two medals from international Olympiads: a bronze medal for Matvey Novitsky from Secondary School No. 16 in Polotsk at the 52nd International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren, and a gold medal for Mark Korneychik from Gymnasium No. 1 in Vitebsk at the XIV International Zhautykov Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics.
By the way, his teacher is Veronika Laktina, an IT teacher at gymnasiums No. 1 and 8 in Vitebsk. Veronika Pavlovna became the most successful teacher in preparing winners of republican Olympiads – seven of her students were awarded diplomas at the final stage.
Among the best were also noted 11th-grader Fyodor Filipovich, who received a second-degree diploma at the informatics olympiad, and his teacher – informatics teacher of secondary school No. 10 of Novopolotsk Vladimir Tsymanovich.
Fyodor has been seriously interested in programming since the ninth grade, and thanks to his high result at the republican level, he can enter any Belarusian university in his specialty without exams or testing. The young man admitted that he has already made his choice in favor of BSU.
– Today, knowledge in computer science is in high demand. The guys initially come to classes motivated, they are interested, they understand why they are doing this, what prospects for professional realization are opening up in this industry, – said Vladimir Vyacheslavovich.
The teacher has prepared several winners in recent years. He starts working with promising children in elementary school from the third or fourth grade, gradually increasing the number of classes. For high school students, Vladimir Tsymanovich admitted, he is no longer so much a teacher as a coach, since they have already acquired the main volume of knowledge and are capable of improving on their own.
A total of 199 students from 15 regions of the oblast took part in the final stage of the republican subject olympiads, with representatives from 11 districts and cities becoming winners.
– Assistance and support for talented youth is one of the main state priorities. In the Vitebsk region, consistent work is being carried out to strengthen and develop the material and technical base of schools and gymnasiums, and conditions are being created for the comprehensive development of children and adolescents. A sufficient level of funding for the education system is maintained. This year, almost 552 million rubles have been allocated from the regional budget, which is about 31% of the total volume. Annually, about 150 million rubles are allocated for regional olympiads, material incentives for winners of the final stage of republican and international olympiads and the teachers who prepared them, – noted Vladimir Terentyev, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies.
