Personal abilities, diligence, pedagogical talent, parental care – all this is necessary for schoolchildren not only to reach the final stage of intellectual competitions, but also to be among the leaders there. Moreover, work towards results begins long before the Olympiad itself.
— I have been working with these children since the 5th grade, — noted Natalia Shcheglova, a mathematics teacher at Vitebsk Secondary School No. 31, introducing her students who became prize-winners of subject competitions. These are current ninth-graders Igor Korolyov and Daria Ivanova, who took first and third place respectively at the republican stage this year. At the regional level, Natalia Vladimirovna had 4 prize-winners, and at the district tour – 16, all from the same class – 8 "A". The teacher hopes for further success, as this year 17 students from 9 "A" became prize-winners at the district stage of the mathematics Olympiad.
There are many such talented teachers and schoolchildren in the Vitebsk region. As Dmitry Khoma, head of the education department of the regional executive committee, reported, representatives of the Dvina region received a total of 70 diplomas and 15 letters of commendation at the final stage of the republican Olympiad in academic subjects. Moreover, year after year, the largest number of awards are presented to children for excellent knowledge of the Belarusian language and literature.
In addition, four students became prize-winners at the international level. Anna Klimkovich from Gymnasium No. 1 of the regional center (now a student of the pharmaceutical faculty of the Vitebsk State Medical University) won
"silver" at the 50th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren. Vitaly Vistunov from Secondary School No. 16 in Polotsk became a bronze medalist of the Romanian Olympiad and the 47th International Physics Olympiad for schoolchildren. Currently, the young man is studying at the Faculty of Applied Physics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Ilya Medyanikov and Artur Petukhovsky from Gymnasium No. 8 in Vitebsk received bronze medals at the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics. Today, Ilya is a student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of Belarusian State University, the most prestigious university in our republic.— Such intellectual competitions are held in distant foreign countries under the conditions of fierce competition. To win there means to demonstrate the high level of the education system of one's country, — emphasized, speaking to the students, their teachers, and educators, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev. Vladimir Vladimirovich also expressed many words of gratitude to the prize-winners of republican Olympiads and, of course, to their mentors.
— Without them, there would be no all-powerful politician, no famous actor, no renowned hero. Teachers create the future of the country — today's students, — he said. — It is wonderful that the winners of the final stage of the republican Olympiad were students not only from such recognized educational institutions — masters of the Olympiad movement, as Gymnasiums No. 1, 2, and 8 in Vitebsk, Polotsk Gymnasium No. 2, but also students from Secondary School No. 1 in Gorodok, Ushachi Secondary School, Drisvyaty Kindergarten-Secondary School of Braslav District, Prozorki and Kirovskoe Kindergartens-Secondary Schools of Glubokoe District, Krasnoluki Kindergarten-Secondary School of Chashniki District, Dunilovichi and Voropayevo Secondary Schools of Postavy District, and others.
Vladimir Terentyev wished the brightest schoolchildren of the Pridvinye region to be people with an active life position, true citizens of our state, patriots of the country, responsible for their own destiny and the future of their native region. He also expressed hope that the teachers will continue to maintain a high standard of student training, doing a lotfor the preservation and enrichment of the best pedagogical traditions.
