Another Great Patriotic War veteran celebrated his 90th birthday in Vitebsk

В Витебске еще один ветеран Великой Отечественной войны отметил свой 90-лений юбилей

Today, from the height of his 90 years, Evgeny Trofimovich Chervyakov looks back on a life that was, of course, long, difficult, and interesting. But for memory, as he himself believes, it's just a moment! In documents, this moment fits into meager biographical data: born on April 29, 1925, in the Shumilinsky district into a family of a peasant-railwayman; at 16, while evacuated, he enrolled in railway school No. 4 in the city of Chkalov (today's Orenburg), as an assistant steam locomotive driver, he was sent with military cargo to Stalingrad, into the very heat of military battles. Only two years after Victory did he return to Vitebsk and on July 28, 1947, he was hired at the locomotive depot. The last lines of his work biography: from 1976 to 1988, Evgeny Trofimovich worked as an instructor driver at the Vitebsk locomotive depot, and since 1991, he has been retired. But E. Chervyakov's labor feats could be worthy of an entire story, a vivid historical canvas. From 1951, he was a steam locomotive driver, and in April 1965, on the Vitebsk-Polotsk section, the first freight train with diesel traction weighing 3500 tons was operated on a TE3-5478 diesel locomotive under the control of diesel locomotive driver Evgeny Chervyakov and his assistant Vasily Filippovich! In 1976, E. Chervyakov was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, he was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labor, and twelve USSR medals, and is the holder of the badges "Honorary Railwayman", "Excellent Steam Locomotive Driver" and "Excellent Worker of the Belarusian Railway". In the past, he was elected delegate to the XXIV and XXVI Congresses of the Central Committee of the CPSU, as well as the XVII Congress of the USSR Trade Unions, and was repeatedly elected deputy of the regional and city Soviets of People's Deputies.

Yesterday, everyone who came to congratulate Evgeny Trofimovich on his glorious anniversary barely fit into the jubilee’s apartment! The renowned citizen received warm words, flowers, gifts, and certificates from Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, and Petr Podgursky, Deputy Chairman of the City Executive Committee, from the management of the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railways, and from Gennady Egorov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans. Vladimir Terentyev conveyed the warmest congratulations from Nikolai Sherstnev, Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, who was in Minsk with the President on that day, and also presented Evgeny Trofimovich with the jubilee medal “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”.
