Vitebsk is preparing for the opening of the fountain season
For more than a week, employees of UP "Vitebskvodokanal" have been "working magic" on the fountains in Victory Square in the regional center. The four domes with backlighting, which were installed for the winter period, have been dismantled. But the fountains on the main square of our city will not lose their beauty and in the year of the 70th anniversary of Victory, they will delight Vitebsk residents and guests of the northern capital with a light and music show.
As reported by the head of the water utility's electrical department, Alexander Dubrovsky, the enterprise maintains 12 fountains: "Three Rivers", in Frunze and Pobediteli parks, on Tolstoy Street, in Privokzalnaya Square, and others. All of them are being prepared for operation. This is a very labor-intensive job. Suffice it to say that more than 90 electric pumps (they were stored in special tanks) need to be installed, which regulate the height of the water jets. All fountain basins need to be cleaned, washed, and where tiles have chipped, repaired, the insulation of the cable lines of the automation control systems needs to be checked, and much more. It is not surprising that various specialists were involved in this work, including employees of the energy service and construction department.
Filling the basins and monthly operation of only 12 fountains requires about three thousand cubic meters of water, which is equivalent to 60 railway tank cars.
