In Vitebsk and its surroundings, 24 hectares are affected by hogweed

In Vitebsk and its surroundings, 24 hectares are affected by Sosnowsky's hogweed. It grows on lands belonging to 126 economic entities. The largest number of problem areas is in the Pervomaysky district.

The situation has practically not changed over the years - economic entities and residents of the private sector destroy hogweed belatedly. This season, employees of the city environmental service issued 607 orders requiring the mowing of the poisonous weed. However, not all of them responded, reported the chief ecologist of the city, Valery Fando.

Large plantations of hogweed can be found near garage cooperatives No. 10, 17, near the cemetery in Mazurino, the television plant, and in other places.

Mowing hogweed is the most effective measure to combat its spread, as poisonous chemicals cannot be used within the city limits. One umbrella of this pest weed contains thousands of seeds. After lying in the ground for several years, under favorable conditions, they germinate and produce abundant seedlings.
