Vaccination of children and adults against influenza has begun in Vitebsk and the Vitebsk region
According to Svetlana Sinkevich, head of the epidemiology department at the zonal center for hygiene and epidemiology, 38,749 doses of vaccine purchased with republican funds and 69,000 doses purchased with local budgets have been received by the city's medical institutions. In addition, it is planned to vaccinate at least 8 percent of the working population on a paid basis, using funds from enterprises and organizations.
The vaccination period will last for two months, until November 30, to allow immunity to develop. Currently, epidemiologists are registering a level of acute respiratory viral infections that is typical for this time of year – from 600 to 900 cases per day.
Provided that the vaccination is carried out successfully, they expect to avoid an epidemic surge in ARVI and influenza incidence this season, as in the previous two seasons. Every year, the number of people vaccinated against such an undesirable disease increases by 5 percent, which yields results. The acquired immunity is maintained in vaccinated individuals for a year. However, alongside this, one should not forget about folk methods of infection prevention.
