Winners of the regional media competition were awarded in Vitebsk
Prior to the ceremony, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, emphasized that modern society is unimaginable without communication, which shapes the information space.
– Mass media participate in creating the social mood of people and forming the image of the region on a national scale. Addressing these tasks requires a conscientious attitude towards work. The position of journalists should be to not hide shortcomings, but to identify them, reflect their causes and solutions, – stressed the head of the region, noting that a number of publications, including "Vitebskiye Vesti," work this way.
Journalists, according to Nikolai Sherstnev, should not only illustrate life but also delve into the depth of the phenomena occurring. The word is a great weapon and a priceless medicine that can both destroy and heal.
Awards for journalistic teams and authors who distinguished themselves over the year were established at the end of 2014 and are being presented for the fifth time. The leaders in the creative competition for the Francysk Skaryna Prize this year were the Vitebsk city newspapers "Vitbichi" and "Vecherniy Vitebsk," as well as the district newspaper "Miorskiye Novosti."
