Vitebsk discussed issues of concern to young agricultural specialists
It is good when a university graduate comes to an enterprise, as they say, to a ready-made position: a job title, a salary according to the staffing table, and provided housing. However, this is the ideal scenario. In practice, it turns out that often a young specialist is dissatisfied with the actual state of affairs. And there are reasons for this.
Due to staff shortages, a recent graduate often has to take on additional responsibilities, or even start in a managerial role immediately.
Lack of experience affects work success, which in turn reduces motivation. Sometimes, upon distribution, a graduate is promised one salary, but in reality, it does not reach the offered amount. However, it also happens that the young specialist themselves makes little effort in their work, and then management has valid claims against them.
All these points were voiced by the rector of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Nikolai Gavrichenko, based on a survey conducted among university graduates. The academy has a practice of supporting young specialists, who can even call the head of their alma mater directly and talk about emerging problems. If veterinarians and zootechnicians face a difficult situation, Nikolai Ivanovich tries to help at his level, through the trade union organization or by resolving the issue with the enterprise administration. Young people are not always willing to approach their immediate superiors, which is why the veterinary academy is now teaching senior students this interaction, showing that any problem can be solved if it is not hushed up and is discussed on-site.
As the rector of the academy emphasized, young people are now interested not only in career growth and financial well-being but also in the opportunity for self-realization.
There are cases when young specialists leave even with favorable working conditions and good salaries for a lower rate, but join a team where they are understood and valued. Therefore, Nikolai Gavrichenko urges enterprise managers to treat newcomers with great attention and involve them more often in socially useful activities.
Another example for borrowing experience is the Vitebsk breeding station. Its General Director Fizuli Gasanov shared how to shorten the adaptation period for future specialists. He observes students from the veterinary academy and students from secondary vocational schools invited for internships throughout all three years, and during this time they get used to the breeding station. After receiving their diplomas, they come to a familiar enterprise, to a team where they have support and friends. Fizuli Abdulbekovich pays special attention to the social activities of young people: young men and women, together with their colleagues, go on excursions around Belarus and Russia, participate in sports and professional competitions, and organize joint active recreation.
By the way, young specialists do not devote much time to recreation, citing the need to gain experience and prove themselves.
Meanwhile, this is an important component, as the inability to switch to leisure and hobbies can lead to emotional burnout. This problem is being closely studied by Svetlana Staradynova, Associate Professor at the Department of Jurisprudence of MITSO. She asserts that the monotony of daily tasks often leads to dissatisfaction with the results of one's work and, as a consequence, with oneself. The work capacity of such a specialist decreases.
Svetlana Mikhailovna recommends dedicating oneself, in addition to work, to various hobbies unrelated to the profession, going on vacation whenever possible, and not hesitating to visit a psychologist if one's mental state is anxious. Even simple gatherings with a friend or a picnic in nature with friends are an excellent timeout, a break from the daily routine.
However, youth is characterized by enthusiasm and a desire to prove oneself in the best possible way, joyfully participating in all events held at enterprises. The most active participants were awarded certificates from the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Agricultural Workers, the Regional Executive Committee, and the Regional Committee of the Trade Union of Agricultural Workers.
