Traffic on Gagarin Street in Vitebsk has been reopened after reconstruction
As Roman Golovchenko noted, the opening of new facilities during the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" festival is a significant tradition for the regional center. Gagarin Street plays an important role in the life of the city, as it is a continuation of the republican highway R 112 and connects it to the transit route towards the regions of Russia. Despite the difficult weather conditions and equally challenging technical issues that had to be resolved during the reconstruction, the Vitebsk builders overcame everything and deserve the highest words of gratitude.
— The main thing is that they are thinking about the future, completing one facility and forming the next sections for work. At the same time, they save money, try to economize, and then say: "Here we have saved resources. Let's build something else." We like this approach, — emphasized the Prime Minister.
In about a year, one of the longest city roads, the overloaded and dilapidated Gagarin Street, has been transformed into a modern and comfortable transport artery. Six-lane traffic, bicycle paths, wide pedestrian sidewalks, and modern bus stops, energy-efficient lighting and galvanized steel fences, a security system. All this has already been highly appreciated by local residents who patiently endured the inconvenconveniences arising from the construction. At the same time, the modernization of three kilometers of the street and road network was carried out without stopping traffic. Along with the builders and road workers, communication specialists, public utilities specialists, and transport workers worked here.
It is now difficult to recall that the work originally started in 2006. About 2.1 km out of 5.3 km of the road were updated, but in 2011, due to the suspension of funding from the republican budget, the project stalled.
A year ago, at the opening of the Polotsk overpass, the authorities promised to complete the reconstruction of Gagarin Street by the jubilee festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" in 2021, and they kept their word. The work resumed due to funds saved during the construction of the Polotsk overpass. A total of 39 million rubles were allocated from credit resources of OJSC "Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus".
"The facility is extremely challenging, and if we had known all the nuances in advance, it would have been more difficult to make a promise to the President of Belarus a year ago. But we gave our word, and we had to keep it. And we managed to do it in 12 months instead of the standard 52. This fact allows us to more clearly appreciate the merit of the people who performed this work," Nikolai Sherstnev said at the ceremony.
The ceremony was graced by the awarding of the Gratitude of the Prime Minister of Belarus, Honorary Diplomas of the Regional Executive Committee and the City Executive Committee to more than two dozen particularly distinguished specialists from organizations. To erect the complex road interchange in the shortest possible time, work was carried out around the clock. The customer for the construction of the facility was the State Enterprise "Capital Construction Management of Vitebsk", the designer was the Unitary Enterprise "Institute Vitebskgrazhdanproekt", and the general contractor was OJSC "Stroitelny Trest No. 9, Vitebsk".
The next stage of renovations on Gagarin Street will be the improvement of the entire residential complex to make the neighborhood as a whole modern and attractive.
In addition to participating in the opening ceremony of traffic on Gagarin Street, the Prime Minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, visited SOOO "Belvest" and OJSC "Vitebskaya Broiler Poultry Farm", where he familiarized himself with the current state and development prospects of the enterprises, technological innovations being implemented by leading Vitebsk manufacturers, as well as the progress of key investment projects.
