A new highway and an underground pedestrian crossing have been opened in Vitebsk

A new road 860 m long has been commissioned in the engineering and transport infrastructure of Vitebsk today.

The highway, which is a continuation of Stroiteley Avenue from P. Brovka Street to Korotkevich Street, has three lanes in each direction. Bicycle and pedestrian paths are provided. Public transport stops have also been equipped. The commissioning of the road will significantly ease the lives of residents of the 40,000-strong young district of Bilevo.

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, Aide to the President - Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Anatoly Linevich, Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Vadim Zaryankin, Director of the enterprise

The road construction began in 2014. "Vitebskobselstroy" acted as the general contractor, and the Vitebsk Capital Construction Department was the client. Construction actively progressed in 2019-2020. To shorten the timelines, work was carried out simultaneously from two sides: from P. Brovki Street and the Starobabinovichsky tract. Even during the performance of complex work under the railway bridge, train traffic on it did not stop.

An important element of the highway is an underground pedestrian crossing. Its construction began more than 20 years ago and was frozen. The facility became the fourth underground crossing in the regional center.

The ceremony of the solemn opening of the road was attended by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, the Aide to the President - Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Anatoly Linevich, other distinguished guests, employees of enterprises and organizations, residents of the Bilevo microdistrict, to which the highway leads.

"Vitebsk has received an important transport interchange today," emphasized Nikolai Sherstnev, congratulating everyone on this significant event.

The Governor emphasized the problems that still need to be addressed in the Bilevo microdistrict. "It might seem that the authorities are turning away from it, thinking that everything has been done. This is far from the case," he stressed. "Yesterday, we commissioned a magnificent school that will accommodate 2,000 students. And we see that the problem remains, as parents of about 250 children could not enroll them here due to a shortage of places. Of course, this is uncomfortable for parents. The issue with kindergartens is not resolved. If we look back, over the 20 years of the Bilevo microdistrict's development, only three kindergartens have been put into operation here, providing about 700 places."

In this regard, Nikolai Sherstnev announced that a project for the construction of a kindergarten-primary school for almost 800 places in this microdistrict is currently undergoing state expertise. The construction of the facility will begin in 2020. It is planned to be commissioned in 2022.

In addition, the most serious attention will be paid to the improvement and landscaping of Bilevo.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Belous, in addition to today's event, this year is marked for Vitebsk by the appearance of a whole series of significant facilities that have substantially changed the appearance of the regional center. Thus, in July, the Polotsk overpass was opened, by the "Slavianski Bazaar" festival, Freedom Square acquired a renovated look, and on September 1, Secondary School No. 47 in Bilevo opened its doors to students.

"In addition to this, the reconstruction of Gagarin Street, the modernization of Kirov Square, the 1000th Anniversary Park, the construction of an indoor football field and the surgical building of the regional oncology dispensary are currently actively underway in Vitebsk, which are also of great importance for the city," added Vladimir Belous.

Among the first to drive along the new highway were participants of the motor rally "For Belarus!".
