Vitebsk celebrated the 136th anniversary of Marc Chagall's birth
Today, Vitebsk celebrated the 136th anniversary of Marc Chagall's birth. The festivities began with laying flowers at the monument on Pokrovskaya Street. Then, in the courtyard of the Marc Chagall House-Museum, a theatrical and musical interactive performance by the ensemble "Nashа pesnya" and the amateur theater "Menora" took place.
Earlier today, the Marc Chagall Art Center hosted a presentation of over 60 rare book editions from the artist's personal library from his last home in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (near Nice, France). The books were gifted to Vitebsk by the artist's granddaughters, Meret and Bella Meyer. The collection also includes original graphic works by Chagall. As noted by the institution, due to the specific nature of graphic art (it cannot be exposed to ultraviolet radiation for more than three months a year), these works, like the rest of the institution's collection, will only be included in exhibitions temporarily.-0-
