Vitebsk to celebrate the 135th anniversary of Marc Chagall's birth
On July 7, the birthday of Marc Chagall, events will be held in the courtyard of the house-museum at Pokrovskaya Street, 11 and at the Art Center on Sovetskaya Street, 25. On this day, visitors are admitted free of charge.
On July 7, the Marc Chagall Art Center (starting at 10:00 AM) will host a round table discussion "Marc Chagall and Literary Creativity," organized in collaboration with the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature. The discussion will cover the specifics of the artist's poetry and prose, translations of his texts into various languages, and the use of Chagall's literary heritage in cultural (museum, library) and tourism activities.
From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the Marc Chagall House-Museum on Pokrovskaya Street will host a theatrical and musical interactive event "Happy Birthday, Marc!".
Following tradition, the celebration will begin with laying flowers at the monument to Marc Chagall at the beginning of the street. This is how, year after year, on the Master's birthday, townspeople pay tribute to their fellow countryman who made Vitebsk world-famous. Everyone who honors traditions and the glorious name of the artist is invited to gather again in the garden of the house-museum. The celebration has been prepared by the Marc Chagall Museum and the Vitebsk Jewish Community. The program includes: poems about the artist and Vitebsk, readings of chapters from the book "My Life," stories and tales about the traditions and holidays of the Jewish calendar, musical performances by the vocal ensemble "Kohavim," a dance flash mob, theatrical scenes by the amateur theater "Menorah," and much more. Admission is free.
From 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the Marc Chagall House-Museum will host the theatrical and museum evening "Let My Soul Unfold...". The museum exhibition will be open, and staff will offer guests a new engaging quest on the artist's work and the museum's exposition.
And at 10:00 PM, an exclusive night screening of the play "Chagall... Chagall..." will begin – etudes in memory based on the play "Direct Train to Paris with All Transfers" by V. Drozdov, staged by the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theater (ticket price – 10 rubles).
On July 8, at the same time, a repeat of the festive theatrical and museum evening program "Let My Soul Unfold..." will take place.
