Vitebsk celebrated the 90th anniversary of Vladimir Korotkevich's birth
It began with laying flowers at the monument to Vladimir Korotkevich, erected in Vitebsk in the Partisan Glory Park named after M. Shmyryov.
– Vladimir Korotkevich is a giant. We should be proud that such a talent was born in the Vitebsk region. We were educated and grew up on the works of our countryman. Through Korotkevich, we can not only study the past of our country but also reflect on historical mistakes, – noted the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, who, along with admirers of the writer's work, paid tribute to the author of works glorifying Belarus.
The head of the parliamentary group also shared plans for further perpetuating the name of Vladimir Korotkevich in his small homeland – Orshanshchina.
After a short rally at the monument, the epicenter moved to the city library named after our countryman. An exhibition was organized here, and poems and songs to the words of Vladimir Korotkevich were performed. Readings were held online, with the participation of Vitebsk writers, actors from the Kolas Theater, and students.
– The star of Vladimir Korotkevich is one of the brightest in the firmament of modern Belarusian literature. Whatever he wrote about, the image of the Motherland was always present, which, with his light hand, we call the Land under White Wings. The writer traveled a lot and admitted that there are places you get used to from the first minute. Vitebsk was such a place for him. He loved the city on the Dvina very much, and we, its residents, are grateful and proud of this, – said the head of the V. Korotkevich Library, Galina Rozhnovskaya.
And she added that one must always follow the commandment that the writer followed – to love one's native land. We are given no other, and we need no other.
The 90th anniversary of their fellow countryman was also celebrated in the Orsha region. From the morning of November 26, on Vladimir Korotkevich's birthday, a memorial service was held in churches, and a litany was recited at the monument to the famous native of the district center. Residents of the city came to the writer's parental home, which now houses the Vladimir Korotkevich Museum. Here, one can also hear unique recordings of the writer's voice, musical compositions by Belarusian performers based on his poems, and watch feature films based on Korotkevich's scripts. And these days, a republican exhibition dedicated to the writer's anniversary is taking place. For the commemorative date, library employees released a collection of poems by Orsha poets and organized its presentation. The first copies, along with souvenirs from entrepreneur Andrey Balabin, were received by members of the oldest folk literary association in Belarus, "Dnyaproŭskija Halasy."
