This was announced today at a joint meeting of the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Regional Executive Committee by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. A gift to veterans and all residents of the regional center for the holiday will be the opening of the first phase of Victory Square, which is scheduled for May 8, 2010, and the arrangement of the Park of Winners, which will be the new name for the currently existing M. Kalinin Square. On the eve of May 9, it is also planned to rename Lenin Park to the Park of Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Shmyrev. At the same time, there is no question of renaming Lenin Square and the street of the same name, the governor emphasized. In 2010, 7 parks will be arranged in Vitebsk, and in general, it is planned to plant about 1 million trees and shrubs in cities, towns, and villages of the region. -0-
