A publication on the traditional clothing of the region's residents will be presented in Vitebsk
The Vitebsk Regional Center for Folk Art (VOMCNТ) will present a publication on the traditional clothing of the region's residents, the center reported.
"Traditional Clothing of Vitebsk Region" is dedicated to Mikhail Yakovlevich Nikiforovsky, a renowned ethnographer, local historian, and the first researcher of traditional clothing in Vitebsk Region. The 372-page publication includes photographic materials of the best examples of reconstructed folk costumes from the Vitebsk region, historical articles, unique photographs, and catalogs of traditional clothing collections from the regional museum of local lore, museums of the Vitebsk region, and the Belarusian-Russian border area. A separate section is dedicated to restored local costume complexes of the 18th-20th centuries, created by employees of the region's houses and centers of crafts.
The project was implemented by VOMCNТ employees (led by Ekaterina Labuko, compiled by Lyudmila Vakar and Nina Bobrovich) based on the results of meticulous preliminary work during the preparation of the weaving masters festival-competition "Canvas Weaves," held as part of the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" arts festival (2013), the folk costume festivals-competitions "Paths of Skill" (Senno, 2015; Vitebsk, 2016), as well as the regional folk costume exhibition-competition "Paths of Skill" and the ethnographic and local history exhibition "Traditional Clothing of Vitebsk Region," held in Vitebsk last year.
