В Витебске пройдет операция «Арсенал»

Starting Monday, the police will intensify efforts to identify individuals illegally possessing ammunition and weapons.

This year, 180 unregistered firearms and over three thousand rounds of ammunition of various calibers have already been seized in the republic. More than 3.4 thousand rounds of ammunition and 52 firearms of this category have been voluntarily surrendered by citizens. 82 illegal acts involving firearms, ammunition, and explosives have been registered.

Additionally, from March 23 to 27, law enforcement officers will inspect the storage conditions of firearms by legal owners and take measures to confiscate weapons from those who have contraindications for firearm ownership. Since the beginning of the year, 414 registered firearms have been confiscated from individual owners, primarily for petty hooliganism, shooting in populated areas, drinking alcohol in public places, or appearing there intoxicated.

Joint raids with employees of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Flora and Fauna under the President of the Republic of Belarus and other environmental organizations are also planned to suppress poaching incidents.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds that Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus

"Illegal actions concerning firearms, ammunition, and explosives" provides for punishment up to twelve years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. However, individuals who voluntarily surrender illegally possessed firearms and ammunition to the internal affairs bodies are exempt from criminal liability.
