The XV Open Republican Boxing Tournament will be held in Vitebsk
The XV Open Republican Boxing Tournament dedicated to the memory of those who died in Afghanistan will be held in Vitebsk from March 7 to 9.
The event will begin at 13:00 with a solemn laying of wreaths at the monument to internationalist soldiers. After that, the official opening of the tournament will take place at the Vitebsk Central Sports Complex in the boxing hall named after Olympic champion Vyacheslav Yanovsky. More than 120 athletes from Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Karelia, and Belarus will take part in the competition in three age groups: men, youth, and juniors.
As explained by Anatoly Stelmakov, senior coach and one of the organizers of the competition, the anniversary tournament accidentally coincided with Women's Day. Traditionally, these competitions are held in the latter half of February, closer to the Day of Remembrance of those who died in Afghanistan. After all, the idea of holding the championship arose precisely because many of Anatoly Vasilyevich's trainees had experienced the horrors of that war.
