Celebrations were held in Vitebsk in honor of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the episcopal see

Thirty years ago, the episcopal see was restored in the Vitebsk region. Recently, in honor of this great holiday, a Divine Liturgy was held with the participation of Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavye and archpastors from Belarus and Russia.

The anniversary coincided with the same period of episcopal consecration of Archbishop Dmitry of Vitebsk and Orsha, who was appointed ruling bishop of the diocese in 1992.

This date is significant for the Vitebsk region. Until 1989, there were only 9 surviving churches on its territory, and only 12 clergy conducted services. During the period of the diocese's activity, about 200 churches have been built and restored. Archbishop Dmitry recalled how the construction of the Holy Assumption Cathedral proceeded, how many people were involved in this good deed, and how the local authorities helped the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

Just as a house lacks harmony and comfort if there is no owner, so a person's heart lacks peace and love when the Lord is not in it, emphasized the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Pavel. It is important for believers to come to church and communicate with God. The Metropolitan noted that the Vitebsk diocese has a rich history, and only the years of persecution of clergy interrupted the series of good deeds for a long time. But the results of the unity of people, authorities, and the church are already visible.

– Evil cannot penetrate hearts that are open only to God, – said Metropolitan Pavel. – With God's help, we are capable of great deeds; our strength is in unity. Together with God, we can resist not only temptation but also ill-wishers. The Holy Word is filled with wisdom; one must listen to it to avoid wars and conflicts. God is love; may it be with us.

During the festive divine service, the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Penin, presented the Vladyka with a Certificate of Honor from the Regional Council of Deputies. He wished the diocese prosperity, and the parishioners – goodness and well-being.
