The Future Belongs to Them
The best representatives of the region received laureate diplomas, the badge of honor "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region," and a cash prize. In addition, billboards with their photographs will adorn the settlements of the region throughout the year.
– Today we honor our best contemporaries. Those who build houses and factories, grow crops and produce goods, heal and teach, protect and defend. The title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region" is not an ephemeral triumph, but an authority built up over years. It reflects professionalism, perseverance, progressive approaches, and experience. Your conscientious work and determination strengthen the image of the Vitebsk region, – emphasized **Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev**, addressing the laureates.
Industry, agriculture, culture, education, science, healthcare, business, construction, housing and communal services, public activities, and defense of the Fatherland – people whose work path serves as an example for others work in all these sectors. Annually, the best representatives of all spheres of activity are determined based on the results of the year's work.
Nikolai Nikolaevich noted that 2020 was a challenging year, but at the same time, it enriched with invaluable experience and was remembered for significant and fruitful deeds.
Education – The Best in the Country
Today, it is impossible to imagine the formation of personality and the development of its potential without education. For the second year in a row, the main department for education of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee has become the best specialized structural unit in the country. Among those awarded the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region – 2020" is Natalia Shcheglova, a mathematics teacher at Secondary School No. 31 in Vitebsk named after V.Z. In the last academic year, her student Ksenia Shestakova won three silver and one bronze medal at prestigious international mathematics competitions.
Mobilized and Achieved Results

– We countered the pandemic without stopping production, – noted **Nikolai Sherstnev**. – The teams of organizations and enterprises worked in a state of the highest mobilization. It is noteworthy that in such conditions, enterprises competently adjusted their approaches to the organization of technological processes, which led to better results.
For example, OJSC "Vityaz", led by Gennady Azarov, increased the production of modern household appliances and medical equipment by 1.8 times and exports to Ukraine, Russia, and the European Union countries by 2.2 times. It is one of the first enterprises in the republic to establish production of electric charging stations for electric vehicles.
Under the leadership of Yuri Ivanov, Vitebsk enterprise "Svet" introduced 100 types of new products. About 70% of the products are exported. The positive foreign trade balance amounted to over 2 million US dollars.
With the participation of the chief designer of the "Krasny Borets" plant, Yuri Osipov, a unique universal high-precision machine tool with numerical program control has been manufactured, which has no analogues in the republic.

Agro-industrial complex is a priority
– The priority is the development of the agro-industrial complex, which accounts for one-fifth of the gross regional product. Almost 20% of all employees in the real sector of the economy work in the agro-industrial complex. The laboreach of them forms the overall result, – reminded Nikolay Nikolaevich.
In 2020, the region increased the production of grain and leguminous crops, milk, the gross harvest of corn for grain doubled, and the highest potato and open-ground vegetable yields in the republic were obtained.
Tractor driver-machinist of the enterprise "Borzdovka-AGRO" of the Orsha district Vladimir Polyachinsky on the "Lexion 770" combine threshed about 3.4 thousand tons of grain, 919 tons of rapeseed oilseeds, and more than 4.5 thousand tons of corn grain. The total harvest was 8868 tons.

Thanks to the fruitful work of the chief veterinarian of OJSC "Novye Goryany" of the Polotsk district Leonid Murashko, 94 calves were born per 100 cows. Leonid Alexandrovich modestly noted that this is not his personal merit: high results can only be achieved together.
– Vitebsk region strives to create the most attractive working conditions in the agricultural sector, increase the prestige of the industry, and reverse the situation with the personnel shortage. The region has decided on an unprecedented step. Starting next month, young specialists in the field of animal husbandry will receive an additional 1000 rubles to their salary monthly, to keep them in the countryside, so that they put down their roots here, – said the head of the region.
They coped with dignity
Last year, special attention was paid to medicine. For the high organization of assistance to patients with COVID-19 infection, several medical workers are on the list of laureates.
The infectious diseases hospital was the first to be repurposed to provide medical care to patients with coronavirus infection. In the inpatient department prover 2700 patients with COVID-19 have been treated, including 245 patients with severe respiratory failure. For the high organization of care, the title of laureate "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region" was awarded to Irina Romaneenkova, Deputy Chief Physician of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Oksana Fedorchuk, a pulmonologist at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, was one of the first to go to treat patients with coronavirus infection in March 2020. History is created by personalities

For the first time in the history of "Slavianski Bazaar", a representative from the Vitebsk region, Angelina Lomako, became the winner of the national qualifying round in 2020 and won the Grand Prix of the International Children's Music Competition "Vitebsk". In addition, for her high performance at the festival, she was awarded a special prize from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. Angelina also became a scholarship holder of the Special Fund of the President of Belarus for the Support of Talented Youth in 2020.
– The history of a people becomes a subject of legitimate pride when there are prominent personalities in the state. Personalities who create the region's economy, who ensure security, stability, peace, who developчеловеческий капитал, сохраняют духовные ценности.

human capital, preserve spiritual values. And this is especially important in such crisis times as we have experienced over the past year. Vitebsk region has worthily overcome this difficult period, – said Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Head of State in the Vitebsk region Vladimir Andreichenko.
He recalled that the region was the first to take the brunt of the pandemic, and other regions learned from its example. It was not easy for teachers either, who had to adjust their programs and switch to new forms of education. Manufacturers stood their ground, despite calls for strikes, to stop working to undermine the economy.
– And all this is primarily thanks to those who today are honored with the title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region". We must look up to these people, because they are the future of our country, – is convinced Vladimir Pavlovich.
