A meeting was held in Vitebsk to discuss issues of ensuring border security

The meeting was attended by representatives of all interested entities ensuring reliable border protection, as well as Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk and Chairman of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus Leonid Maltsev.

Opening the meeting, Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Ksinets noted that today we have a sufficiently effective system ensuring border security.

Effective interaction has been established between local executive authorities, the Border Committee, the Committee for State Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Smorgon Border Group unit, and the Polotsk Border Detachment, which are stationed in the Vitebsk region. Evidence of this is the fact that quite recently the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, President of our country Alexander Lukashenko, set the task of a surprise inspection of the readiness of the Armed Forces and territorial defense. The exercises took place in the Miory district, during which the effective interaction of all participants was demonstrated. Good training will allow at any moment to ensure not only all the most necessary conditions for border protection and strategically important objects, but also to suppress the actions of gang formations and provocations by any extremist groups.

Chairman of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Colonel-General Leonid Maltsev, delivered a report at the meeting. He noted that such meetings have already been held in the Gomel, Brest, and Grodno regions, and therefore they should not be considered extraordinary due to events in neighboring Ukraine. Leonid Maltsev noted that the discussion concerns problems and shortcomings that exist in the daily work of state border protection. The border cannot be understood simply as a dividing line. It is a border zone where a certain regime and elementary legislation must be observed, which will create unbearable conditions for smugglers. And the state of border security in each individual region of the republic is an integral part of national security.
