The first city youth forum was held in Vitebsk
It is not easy for a young specialist to adapt to a modern enterprise with high demands on quality and compliance with technological regulations. Therefore, the institution of mentorship is well-developed in many Vitebsk enterprises. Employees who mentor new hires are financially rewarded, as is the case, for example, at the Vitebsk branch of RUP "Beltelecom". However, as soon as a young employee gets into the work rhythm and their daily routine becomes monotonous, their energy requires an outlet and application beyond fulfilling planned tasks. Vitebsk enterprises take this into account and involve young people in social, sports, and cultural life. Various professional and creative competitions are held, both within the team and industry-wide – among similar enterprises in the republic. This is practiced among energy workers, on the Belarusian Railway, at RUP "Belpochta", etc.
As part of the first city youth forum, a competition was also held for the best work with new recruits. Criteria such as the adaptation of youth at enterprises, provision of social guarantees, involvement in public associations, and organization of active recreation were considered. Out of the eight submitted applications, as reported by Tatyana Ignatkova, head of the department of ideological work and youth affairs of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, it was difficult to choose a winner, as leisure and working conditions for young specialists are organized at a decent level in each of the enterprises.
And yet, the top three were determined with a difference of tenths of a point. The Vitebsk branch of RUP "Beltelecom" took third place, UP "Vitebskoblgaz" took second, and the winner's cup went to the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railways. The jury also recognized the confectionery plant "Vitba" for organizing work with youth associations and the Vitebsk branch of RUP "Belpochta" for fostering a corporate youth culture.
As Tatyana Nikolaevna reported, the initiative of her department in holding the competition was enthusiastically received by both local authorities and enterprise managers and was fully implemented. Next year, this competition is planned to be held on a larger scale, taking into account new criteria. The city's chief ideologist also emphasized that working with youth is not an easy but a very important task, as yesterday's graduates are interested not only in financial gain but also in the opportunity for self-realization. Proactive, creative, athletic, and active, they want to receive moral satisfaction from everything they do, and this greatly influences whether a young employee will want to stay at their first job after mandatory service.
