A car rally of patriotic forces of the region, dedicated to the Year of Historical Memory, has started in Vitebsk
The motor rally began with the formation of vehicle columns on Kalinin Street in Vitebsk and laying flowers at the memorial complex on Victory Square.
– We pay tribute to the liberator soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters who fought during the Great Patriotic War, – noted Valeryan Matskevich, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan.
Activists of public organizations "Belaya Rus", "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan", "Belarusian Union of Officers", "Patriots of Belarus", "Veterans of Airborne and Special Operations Forces", "Rescuer", DOSAAF, LDPB, youth public association "VPC "Poisk" set off along the battlefields of Operation Bagration, and military burial sites in Vitebsk – Shapurakh – Koptyakh – Babinovichakh – Orekhovsk – Rylenkakh.
Operation Bagration, which lasted five weeks from June 23 to August 29, 1944, during the Great Patriotic War, led to the defeat of the German Army Group Center and the liberation of the BSSR. One of the largest operations in human history, the operation is named after the Russian military leader Pyotr Bagration, who gained fame during the Patriotic War of 1812.
