The anniversary of the international airport was celebrated at the Palace of Culture of Railway Workers.
Honored guests, staff, and the head of the airport, Sergey Ruris, who dedicated almost four decades to the organization, attended the solemn meeting and festive concert.
For many years of diligent work and high professionalism, the best employees of the enterprise were awarded certificates of honor, letters of gratitude, and received words of recognition.
- Today, Vitebsk Airport is the second most important in our country and is a vital transport and logistics artery not only for the Vitebsk region but for all of Belarus. On behalf of the residents of the Vitebsk region and myself, I want to congratulate the enterprise's staff on such a significant date and wish the northern air harbor further development, – said the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, addressing the audience.
Gennady Kostyuk, Assistant Director of the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, congratulated those present on behalf of the leadership of the aviation administration of the Republic of Belarus. He noted:
- At 90 years old, one of the oldest airports in our country is a worthy calling card of Vitebsk and a part of the history of Belarusian aviation. Its fate is inextricably linked with many generations of people who are in love with the sky. The airport fully meets the high requirements of international standards and is one of the best in Belarus.
For reference: Vitebsk Airport was opened on November 28, 1934, in the southern suburb of the regional center (now the Chkalov Street area) under the name "Yuzhny". In 1978, it was moved to the area of the village of Vorony, 11 km from the city. In 2000, Vitebsk Airport became part of the large state concern "Belaeronavigatsiya". Currently, the modern air harbor is capable of receiving any aircraft and handling up to 150 passengers per hour; charter flights to resorts in Turkey and Egypt, as well as custom business-class flights and cargo flights are operated here.
Today, Vitebsk Airport is a dynamically developing enterprise with a cohesive team ready to conquer new heights.
