In Vitebsk, the regional library opened an updated subscription department
– These are challenging times, it used to be easier to work: you were in demand by absolutely everyone, – said Nikolay Sherstnev. – Today, times are different, you need to develop, find that special something that will make the library in demand in the modern world, especially by young people. It is pleasant to see that young people and very young readers with parents and teachers are present here today. You need to adapt to the format of the times, and it's good that you, librarians, are doing it. Today, you are also entrusted with educational functions. Children of any age should read books, get information, appreciate and love their country, their city, village, district, honor their parents. Literature should teach this, and therefore the library should.
Nikolay Nikolayevich recalled his student years, when he also gladly visited the reading room of the "Leninka". And now he is glad to see the modern transformations in the temple of books, which are constantly happening here thanks to the efforts of the team under the direction of director Tatyana Adamyan.
From the authorities, Nikolay Sherstnev promised, support will always be provided to initiative-driven people who use new forms of work. The experience of the Lenin Library, noted the head of the region, will be extended to the regions. Nikolay Sherstnev visited almost all departments of the institution on this day.
The tour began with the updated subscription hall, the most in-demand service department of "Leninka" and the largest in terms of structure and number of specialists working there, as well as in terms of collection size – about 80 thousand items of literature. Repairs have been carried out here, new furniture has been installed, and the space for readers has been reconfigured. There is convenient navigation, which makes it easy to navigate the sea of books. Now the approach to the shelves is completely open. Each reader can approach the shelves and choose what they like. Comfortable locations for readers have also been equipped where they can sit and browse a magazine or a book. And library visitors already like it. By the way, the staff did not resort to the help of designers, they managed on their own.
