A modern school is being built in Vitebsk, with its opening scheduled for September 1st
The Vitebsk new-building microdistrict of Bilevo has about 40 thousand residents. Of these, 11.5 thousand are children. So far, there is only one school there – No. 46. The shortage of places is obvious, and the next secondary school, No. 47, was laid down nearby in 2012. Its construction was delayed, but two years ago, with the help of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the financing problem was solved. The largely unique educational institution, designed for 1020 children, is planned to open on September 1 of this year.
This school, claims the director of Secondary School No. 47, Artur Tereshkov, is not for nothing called the most modern in the city:
— There is no other place with such a solid sports base. First of all, I mean the swimming pools: a 25-meter pool with 3 lanes and a so-called "paddling pool" for toddlers, where swimming lessons can be conducted from the 1st grade. Add to this a beautiful stadium with running tracks and playgrounds made of monolithic rubber crumb and rubber tiles.
The last school with a swimming pool in Vitebsk that is currently in operation was built more than a quarter of a century ago. It is not surprising, believes the foreman of construction department No. 38 of construction trust No. 9, Alexey Solodovnikov, that advanced technologies are encountered at every step in Secondary School No. 47:
— The water treatment for the pools is state-of-the-art: filters, automation, electronics! A serious smoke removal system ensuring fire safety. There are several sports halls here. The roof of the game hall is supported not by heavy reinforced concrete beams, as before, but by openwork metal trusses. This allows for faster and cheaper construction.
The specific features of educational institution layouts were taken into account when designing the new school. It resembles School No. 46 externally, but is more convenient inside. As for the swimming pools, it is not the first time that the workers of SU-38 have built them. According to the foreman of concrete workers, Stanislav Koshelev, the bowls turned out to be reliable:
— The large pool used 100 cubic meters of concrete! To make it clear: a car concrete mixer holds 5 cubic meters. I have two daughters growing up – 7 and 3 years old. I am genuinely envious of them and their peers: a gym, a shooting range, a football field – everything is nearby! As someone who graduated from a rural school in Beshenkovichi...in the Vitebsk region, one could only dream of such conditions!
Carpenter Yevgeny Simonovich was preparing formwork for monolithic structures and floors before they were poured with concrete:
— In addition to classrooms for various subjects, the new school will have specially equipped rooms for culinary arts and sewing. This will be useful in life.
Denis Dyshlyuk is one of those who laid the 10-meter walls of the main school swimming pool with bricks. He has three children. 11-year-old Nikita and 8-year-old Daniil will be transferred to Secondary School No. 47 from September 1:
— The fact that we won't have to take the kids to another microdistrict for sports is, I think, very important for many parents. They say that season tickets for the pool will be sold to both children and adults. This means that on weekends, we can not only go fishing or to the banya, but also race our sons in the pool.
Secondary School No. 47 will soon begin receiving furniture, desks, and equipment. Graduating classes, notes Igor Kiryutenko, head of the education department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, are not formed in newly opened schools:
— This is done because graduates, as a rule, prefer to finish their studies at institutions they are familiar with. Nevertheless, there are already 1391 people who wish to study at School No. 47. When it starts operating, the flow of children being transported to other microdistricts of the city will significantly decrease. We will relieve the social tension characteristic of rapidly growing neighborhoods.

The construction cost of Secondary School No. 47 consists of two amounts. The first phase, the building with landscaping, cost 24 million 840 thousand rubles at 2006 prices. The second phase, which includes the swimming pools, costs 5 million 195 thousand rubles at current year prices.
