Two literary awards for 2020 were presented in Vitebsk

В Витебске вручили две литературные премии за 2020 год
Two literary awards for 2020 were presented at the regional library – the Petrus Brovka Award and the Vladimir Korotkevich Award.

It is a good tradition to honor, at the end of the outgoing year, those who have made a significant contribution to a cause, reached new heights in a certain field, including literature. After all, man does not live by bread alone; he has always needed and continues to need spiritual food. The award ceremony for writers and poets who received awards from the regional authorities was a recognition of the significance of the literary style.

It is symbolic that it took place in the temple of books, where reading people come, who are surely familiar with the authors who received congratulations on this day. Among the laureates of the Petrus Brovka Literary Award, established in 2012, is Zoya Novoenko, recognized in the "Prose" nomination for her book "Childhood in the Fog of War." Zoya Maksimovna is a teacher by education; she taught biology at a school in Glubokoye for over 25 years. She now lives in Podsvilye. As the author herself explained, the book reproduces vivid memories of war and the post-war period, filled with pain and love for people, from the perspective of an adult woman. The story of those distant years is conveyed through the perception of a little girl who saw everything herself and processed what she saw through her heart.

In the "Poetry" nomination, the award went to Galina Zagurskaya from Polotsk for her poetry collection "Bereh zarapadau." This is the author's fifth book, in which she shares her reflections and experiences about the fate of the homeland and expresses her love for her native region. She conveys her love not only on paper but also on canvas. Galina Zagurskaya's paintings are included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Belarus.

In the "Literature for Children" section, the award was given to the oldest writer of the Vitebsk region, who celebrated her 90th birthday this year, Maina Boboriko, for her book "Elgraf and the Magic Scissors." Maina Maksimovna is a laureate of many literary awards, including the Petrus Brovka Award, which the writer received in 2016.

The Vladimir Korotkevich Prize is awarded every five years. In the jubilee year of the classic of Belarusian literature, three authors of prose works became recipients of the awards: Anna Novoseltseva for the book "When a Fairy Tale Met You", as well as Galina and Sergey Trofimov for the book "My Native Land". Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, Chairman of the regional branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus, was recognized for her poetry collection "We Will Live...". Arkady Rusetsky also became a laureate, for the second time, for his many years of work in promoting the works of Vladimir Korotkevich and for the book "Uladzimir Kratkevich: His Star Will Never Fade... (An Attempt at a Literary Biography)".

– In your works, you glorify your native land, continue the traditions of our famous countrymen who set an example of love for Belarus and the native word, – addressed the awardees Vladimir Penin, Deputy Chairman of the regional executive committee, adding that a person who does not read books is limited in their development and cannot perceive the full richness of life.
