D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Philharmonic – to Vitebsk
Laureate of the S.I. Savshinsky International Competition, the YOUTH TRIO of the D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Philharmonic
Laureates of international competitions Olesya MOROZOVA – piano, Yan TOMILOV – violin, Roman KISELEV – cello
Honored Artist of Russia Daniil MEEROVICH – viola takes part in the concert
The participants of the Youth Trio became laureates of the V S.I. Savshinsky International Competition, an outstanding musician and teacher, professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. The competition was held from November 27 to December 1, 2013 at the Tsarskoye Selo Gymnasium of Arts named after A. Akhmatova in St. Petersburg. Participation in an international competition of this scale, as noted by People's Artist of the Russian Federation, artistic director and chief conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev, "is already an achievement, a victory over oneself, an important milestone in the life of a young musician". Performers from Finland, Sweden, Turkey, Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine participated in the competition.
For the first time in Vitebsk, Gustav Mahler's famous quartet will be performed, which has its own interesting creation history. To perform this work, Honored Artist of Russia Daniil Meerovich (viola), whose work is well known to the Vitebsk public (the Stravinsky Quartet, where the violist works, has pleased the audience of the I.I. Sollertinsky festivals several times with its performances), will come with the young musicians. The timbre composition of the chamber ensemble, which includes the entire string family of the orchestra, allows composers to create high artistic images and convey deep emotions comparable to the drama of symphonies.
A combination of youth and maturity, ardor and composure, boundless skill and virtuosity will be heard at the concert, which will feature:
J. Haydn. Trio in G major; J. Brahms. Trio No. 1, Op. 8; S. Rachmaninoff. Elegy Trio in G minor; G. Mahler. Quartet for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello (unfinished).
