The construction of the football arena is nearing completion in Vitebsk

Match to be held in any weather

Last year, the 2006-born players from the Vitebsk FC Youth Sports School won silver medals at the republican Spartakiad among football sports schools. Their coach Alexander Ivanov is confident that the boys can achieve even greater success. The new indoor football arena, the construction of which is being completed these days, will contribute to this.

The facility is being built next to the Central Sports Complex. Inside, there will be an artificial football field measuring 120 by 60 meters, as well as warm-up running tracks. The area will be covered by a dome made of special material, which is supported by air pressure instead of concrete or metal structures, protecting it from snow and rain. According to Alexander Ivanov, such an arena is called an air-supported structure:

— In winter, we conduct training sessions outdoors. If it's cold or slushy, we move to the gym. Unfortunately, for 5-6 months a year, we are unable to play fully. However, 13-14-year-old boys who have become prize-winners of republican competitions need to improve their skills on large fields. This is the youngest of the four licensed age groups of the football club. This autumn, these boys will start playing in the Belarusian championship.

Young forward Maxim Kuntsevich, who was recognized as the best forward in the country in his age group, dreams of joining the main team of FC Vitebsk:

— To achieve this, I give my all in training. I am sure that in the arena, training will be even more effective.

According to Vladislav Kurdyuk, a construction and installation work master at PlissaStroy LLC, the concrete foundation is about 90% complete:

— The preparation of the "cushion" of soil and gravel, on which the artificial football field will be laid, is also nearing completion.

The cost of construction work is 3 million 600 thousand rubles. This is funded by the city budget and FC Vitebsk. Nikolai Vaityukhovsky, the club's director, says that the synthetic football field and the dome for the arena were provided by the Belarusian Football Federation.

— To get from the locker room to the arena, you won't even have to go outside,— he says. — The hotel, cafe, stadium, training fields — everything is nearby. This is a great gift for footballers from the northern region. Such an arena is simply necessary for the children, of whom there are more than 600 in our sports school and football academy.

It is planned that the new sports facility will be operational at the end of July — beginning of August.
