In Vitebsk, the investigation into the criminal case of a student murdering his roommate in a dormitory has been completed

The Vitebsk City Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus has completed the investigation of a criminal case initiated against a 21-year-old Vitebsk student accused of murdering his roommate in a dormitory.

As previously reported, on the morning of December 22 last year, the police received a report that the body of a 24-year-old student had been found in the dormitory of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine.

The investigative and operational group that arrived at the scene immediately carried out all necessary investigative actions and operational search measures. A 21-year-old student, who lived in the same room of the student dormitory with the deceased, was detained on suspicion of committing the crime.

During the preliminary investigation, it was established that on the night of December 21-22, students of the educational institution left the dormitory and went to one of the entertainment venues in the city of Vitebsk. The young men stayed at the cafe until early morning. Before the entertainment venue closed, one of the students returned to the dormitory. The second one, due to lack of money, could not pay the presented bill, and therefore left his mobile phone as collateral. Offended by his friend's action, the young man returned to the dormitory room, where he tried to wake up his roommate and find out why he had left the cafe without paying the bill. Not receiving an answer to his question, the 21-year-old student began to strike his roommate, from which he died.

Currently, the preliminary investigation into the criminal case has been completed. A sufficient amount of evidence has been collected confirming the fact of the crime. Numerous expert examinations have been conducted, including a forensic psychiatric examination, according to the results of which the accused person has been declared sane.

The actions of the accused have been qualified under Part 1 of Article 139 (murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Since his detention, the accused has been held in custody.

Currently, the criminal case has been transferred to the prosecutor for referral to court.
