December 18, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. 60 electoral districts will be formed in the Vitebsk region for the elections to the 26th convocation of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies. This decision was made today at the session of the 25th convocation of the Regional Council of Deputies, a BELTA correspondent reports. According to Iosif Bakevich, Head of the Organizational and Personnel Work Department of the Regional Executive Committee, an optimal number of districts, 60, has been established in the region since 1999, which allows for the election of deputies and the formation of full-fledged, effective standing commissions of the Council in key areas of public life. "The same number of districts is proposed to be established for the elections to the 26th convocation of the Regional Council of Deputies, with an average number of voters of 14,769 people," he said. At the same time, the minimum number of voters in a district is 12,292 people, and the maximum should not exceed 16,246 voters. According to Article 15 of the Electoral Code of Belarus, from 40 to 60 electoral districts are formed for elections to regional councils of deputies, which are formed no later than five months before the expiration of the powers of the deputies of the current convocation. Electoral districts are formed with approximately equal numbers of voters, with a deviation not exceeding 10%. As BELTA previously reported, elections to local councils of deputies will be held in Belarus in the second half of spring 2010, presumably in April. -0-
