In the Vitebsk region, the number of crimes has decreased by almost a third over five years
January 19, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. The number of registered crimes in the Vitebsk region in 2010 decreased by 5.7% to 17.5 thousand compared to the previous year. At the same time, the trend of crime reduction in the region has been observed for the last five years. This was announced today at a press conference by the regional prosecutor Gennady Dysko, according to a BELTA correspondent.
According to the prosecutor, the number of crimes in 2010 decreased by almost a third compared to 2005, when about 24.6 thousand criminal offenses were registered. A similar downward trend is observed for individual types of crimes. Thus, the number of murders decreased by more than 57% to 79 crimes in 2010, hooliganism decreased by 83% (247 versus over 1.4 thousand in 2005). The number of crimes committed by minors decreased by almost 53% to 587 crimes, and the share of such crimes in the overall crime structure decreased from 8% in 2005 to 5% by the end of 2010.
This result was largely made possible by a significant intensification of work on crime prevention and prophylaxis, Gennady Dysko is confident. "First of all, I would like to thank the local authorities and enterprises of the region, which have literally turned their face to the problem of prevention," the prosecutor emphasized.
As for the results of work in 2010, compared to 2009, a decrease in the number of crimes occurred in almost all types of criminal offenses. Thus, the number of grave and especially grave crimes decreased by 12%, the number of robberies decreased by 20%, almost 11.5% fewer thefts were registered, and the number of robberies decreased by almost 13%. 482 corruption-related crimes were registered in the region, which is 8.5% less than in 2009. Among them are 122 cases of embezzlement through abuse of official powers (a decrease of 33%), 29 cases of abuse of power or official powers (a decrease of 14.7%). 147 cases of bribery were detected, which is 3.5% more, the number of detected official forgery increased by 8.8% to 174 cases. The structure of crime is dominated by theft, the share of which was almost 51% of the total number of crimes, followed by robberies (3.1%), driving a vehicle while intoxicated (2.9%), fraud (2.9%), hooliganism (1.4%).
One of the pressing problems for law enforcement officers in the region remains recidivism, the level of which increased in 2010 by 5.7 percentage points to 46.5% of the total number of registered crimes. -0-
